Changing the way we see a place is already a way of transforming it. For decades, urban design focused primarily on building new districts. Today, the greatest challenges lie within places that already exist. Every project begins by understanding the relationships between geography, landscape, production, everyday life and infrastructure. It is through this reading that the conditions for transformation emerge.
URBASTUDIO works on territories in transition : industrial brownfields, productive landscapes, existing neighbourhoods, urban fringes, historic centres and overlooked everyday environments. The practice focuses on places where inherited models have reached their limits and where new relationships remain to be invented.
Every project starts in the field. Walking, observing, meeting people, listening and returning. Understanding a place before imagining its future. This immersion is not about collecting information; it is about revealing the connections, continuities and resources that will shape the project.
Each territory requires its own approach. Rather than applying a predefined methodology, the practice develops the tools best suited to each situation. The objective is not to produce another report, but to build a shared strategy capable of guiding decisions and enabling long-term transformation.
Our projects seek to create new complementarities : between housing and production, city and landscape, heritage and transformation, economic development and ecological transition. More than designing forms, we create the conditions for places to evolve over time.
