A research programme led by URBASTUDIO and NOMMOS on productive territories in transition.

The Territorial Factory is a research programme dedicated to the transformation of small industrial towns and productive territories undergoing transition. In response to the challenges of reindustrialisation, it proposes a territorial approach that takes landscapes, local resources, heritage, know-how and existing capacities as the starting point for design.

Based on a corpus of sixty post-industrial towns across France, the research develops a cross-cutting understanding of contemporary transformation trajectories. It identifies recurring situations, reveals often overlooked resources, and builds a project methodology grounded in the existing rather than in universal models.

The research directly informs the work of URBASTUDIO and NOMMOS, from urban regeneration and brownfield redevelopment to productive landscapes, historic centres and territorial strategies.
